Cairns and Cook were founders of this partnership of executives/investors based in Canada, the USA, Europe and the Far East.
After initial work to build the portfolio, the company enjoyed a successful listing on the TSE in 1999. After building a portfolio of emerging technology investments using the partners’ global network, Martlet was acquired by Knorr Capital Partners AG in a stock swap, leaving Martlet shareholders with 10% of the combined company – Knorr was Germany’s largest public venture capital group at that time with a market capitalization of approximately $250 million.
This was also the first acquisition of a listed Canadian company by a listed German company.
